This single was created during the first year of the Covid-19 pandemic (2020). The UK had spent the majority of the year under lockdown and social restrictions for means of containing the virus. This single was originally written as a reflection of this. However, the meaning in the lyrics was later modified when Ciara decided to integrate her love for sci-fi and mystery into her 'Ophelia's Eden' music project. The 'Red Eyes' music video reveals a supernatural element, but much of the storyline is left to the imagination and to be continually weaved through upcoming projects
